AS OF 3.1.2008 WHICH BLUE CHIP STOCKS HAVE THE HIGHEST BOOK VALUE PER SHARE
Many people have different opinions of exactly what constitutes a blue chip. There really is no definition that I am aware of.
If you were to consider XOM a blue chip, its book value per share is $21.71 but the total net tangable value of the company is $114+++ billion about 4 months cost of the Iraq war.
GE another that many might consider a blue chip has a book value of about $11.57 per share. Total net tangible value of the company only about $18 billion.
WMT certainly has some claim to a blue chip. About $16.18 per share. Total about $48 billion.
How about some non-blue chip companies. CSWC has about $139 per share. Total only about $725 million.
A few years ago AIG had some claim as a blue chip. Doubtful that is the case any longer. Book per share was about $40.81 last year. Not any longer. Total about $93 billion but it recently came to light that that number was exceedingly too high. We are not really sure how much too high it was but it has recently been reduced considerably. So much for the blue chip lable.
That brings us to C. ha ha. The acolades this outfit once got. The joke was on the investors. Always is. Book per share is stated as $22.74. Might be high by about $22.00. Who knows? Total dropped from $70 billion to under $50 billion in just one year. At that rate give it a couple of more years tops.
