Stocks rally; oil hits $89

Oct. 17 – U.S. stocks moved higher for the first time in three days on upbeat results from several blue chip names.

Oil prices hit $89 for the first time on growing tensions in the Middle East.
Quarterly results from Dow components JPMorgan Chase, Coca-Cola and Intel led the rally.
Yahoo beat forecasts, but IBM’s results were in line with expectations.
On the economic front, housing starts tumbled to a 14-year low in September and higher energy costs led consumer prices higher.
