Cheap stocks are usually cheap for a reason.
You will face a great deal more risk when investing in smaller/ cheaper priced stocks.
Find stocks that are at least $15 and may be as high as $40 and you will find quite a lot of candidates.
To help narrow down the stocks, make sure they have a good Average volume of trades (100,000 at least) and have positive Growth, Sales Growth, and Earnings numbers.
You may have about 200 to choose from now, so also look at the graphs to eliminate the ones with the most spikes in them as the volatilty might not let you sleep at night.
