Chipotle Stock Has Great Ingredients

Chipotle Mexican Grill, stock symbol CMG, is a chain of fast-casual restaurants based in the United States and Canada. It specializes in burritos and tacos. The company was founded in 1993 by Steve Ells, and is based in Denver, Colorado. The McDonald’s spinoff now has over 1000 restaurants, and expects to open over 100 more in 2011.

Chipotle stock completed its initial public offering in January 2006. Starting in 2009, the stock has enjoyed enormous success, and its shareholders have been rewarded big time. Not only does Chipotle have great ingredients in their food, but it also has great ingredients that caused its stock to take off like a rocket ship. Let us examine some of these ingredients or characteristics that great stocks, like Chipotle, have in common.

Earnings are the most influential factor that determines the success of a stock. Current earnings per share should be up at least 20% or more, and it is very beneficial to have earnings accelerating over prior quarters. Annual earnings per share should be up 20% or more in each of the last few years. You also want quarterly sales up 20% or more, or at the very least accelerating over prior quarters.

Chipotle stock has been exceptional because its earnings and sales record has been solid. Like most stocks, it corrected in 2008 because of the financial crisis. Since late 2008, the stock has went from about .00 per share, up to its current price of nearly 0.00 per share in February of 2011. Current earnings are up 48.5% from a year ago. Revenue rose 24.5%, the fourth straight quarter of faster growth.

Many of the greatest stocks in history came out with new, exciting products and services that sold quickly. This caused earnings and sales to accelerate. Chipotle did not come out with a new product, but are conducting business in a new and exciting way, which has made them very popular. Chipotle is focused on finding only the highest quality ingredients to make awesome tasting food. They go overboard to make their restaurant experience exceptional. This is partly accomplished by recruiting and retaining top performing people. Another key is Chipotle has great respect for the environment, and demands proper treatment of animals. They advertise these facts, which is brilliant in my opinion. This all contributes to the success of Chipotle stock.

Other important reasons Chipotle stock has been so successful includes the following. Big institutions such as mutual funds, hedge funds, and pension funds have piled into the stock. The company is managed well. It is a leading stock, in a better performing industry group. The trend of the general market has been mostly upward for quite a while. Chipotle stock makes a good blueprint of what is synonymous with success. Study the fundamentals and technicals of the Chipotle stock. Implement what you learn into your future stock picking endeavors. Your results could improve dramatically.

It was Tolson’s recognition that the power of knowledge is the greatest advantage of all, which brought these students from underdogs to victors in a time when more than the odds were against them.
